Supporting Cells

Supporting cells (SCs) play a central role in maintaining the structural and functional integrity of the vestibular and auditory organs. In the auditory system, SCs provide mechanical support to hair cells and help regulate the ionic composition of the endolymph. In the vestibular system, SCs contribute to sensory regeneration and repair of damaged hair cells. Ongoing studies into the mechanisms of SCs are essential to understanding cellular signaling and homeostasis during development, disease, and/or injury.
